One of them, Bowman Ranch, is a part of the Safe Children Coalition. The Coalition is a collaboration between the YMCA and many area organizations and individuals that blend available resources to assist abused, neglected, and abandoned children and their families.
Bowman Ranch is a 20 acre residential group home east of Sarasota in the country for young women (ages 11-18) who are in foster care. Residents build life management skills to help them transition to a more permanent placement in the community. A unique part of their experience is the caring for the horses and animals on the property. A portion of the money raised in Kellogg & Kimsey's annual golf tournament was used to purchase 6 new horses for the girls. To learn more, visit www.sarasota-ymca.org/social services/fostercare.
INSTRIDE EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY (Formerly THE SMITH CENTER)
Another outstanding organization Kellogg & Kimsey is proud to support is the Instride Equine Assisted Therapy. The center makes hippotherapy available to clients with special needs such as cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, developmental or learning disabilities, or other conditions that can affect postural control. Hippotherapy is treatment with the help of the 3-dimensional movement of the horse's hip and pelvis as the hind legs move forward at the walk. Specially trained physical, occupational, and speech therapists use this unique medical treatment for clients with movement disfunction.
They are excited about a new facility that we are helping them plan for on their 76 acre site. It will include: 100' x 200' covered arena, 28 stall handicapped accessible equine barn, therapy clinic, office area, outdoor equestrian center, new fencing, and care takers quarters.
